any discussions (if suh is possible here).

I do not plan to attend. I do not find
the program interesting, and do not like
the 1931 amputated version of Rachmaninov's
2nd sonata.

Cheers!

Haydn, Medtner, Wolpe. And Frank Zappa. And John Oswald! Even if one
prefers the original 1913 version of the op.36, how can you not find
this program "interesting"?

I do not find Haydn, Medtner, Wolpe,
Frank Zappa John Oswald "interesting".
The only work in this program that is
interesting to my ears is Rachmaninov
2nd sonata, but not in its butchered
1931 version. If you look around you
will find that very few pianists still
stick with the 1931 version.

In a nutshell, MAH's program does not
justify for me the time and hassle of
driving to SF, finding parking, and
then driving back home. Spending 4+
hours just to listen to a 20 minute
work performed by a pianist who has
not demonstrated so far any affinity
with Rachmaninov's musical idiom does
not look to me like a reasonable deal.

As you are probably aware, people's
brains and ears can be wired very
differently. What sounds interesting
to one person may sound boring, or
even irritating to another person.

À chacun son dégoût.

Cheers

Here is a "preview":

The Rachmaninov Sonata is good, but not
ravishing. Definitely not worth driving
to San Francisco IMHO.

Cheers!
