in cosi there really is no one better… and ya I probably need the other

And honestly fuck Östmans Mozart recordings hard… they suck so bad… I
never liked how sugary they were singing… but dunno… I found the concept
„chamber-sound“ interesting… and the voices - while bothering me,
because of being dunno too sweet - nothing evil - we’re at least with
almost no vibrato etc… I mean I like Yakar Hagegard and some others….
But the whole style is… I dunno… I like Klemperer and fricsay way more…
or Beecham or Böhm

I’m fucking ashamed of myself for thinking that I liked them, these
recordings suck ass…

I will reevaluate Östman‘s opera recordings - I think I might have been
a bit too harsh yesterday evening/night when thinking about them…

I will also reevaluate Siepi in the DG recordings of Furtwängler,
Mitropoulos and Krips — Im certain he isn’t as good as Ghiaurov though,
and I also prefer DFD as the Don - even though sometimes it’s quite
apparent that sometimes he „shouts“ to make his voice bigger than it is…
like he has to put some energy into it… I feel DFD sings with more
feeling… the way he phrases etc — Siepi is kind of boring honestly…
likely better than 90% of the other dons though

Just listened to krips - been quite a while - to ah taci… beautiful
phrasing by krips the orchestra so beautiful… and Della casa so
beautiful… but wtf… I hear siepi in clear now… much clearer than in
Orfeo… and ya… he sucks… absolutely sucks… fuck… like I really don’t
like it… I guess I really do prefer DFD here… but honestly… it’s kind of
weird… maybe it’s just I can’t listen to any other dg besides ghiaurov
anymore — interestingly I still seem to like DFD in fricsays nozze
despite what I said above… I like his character portayal and phrasing
and the points above don’t actually bug me that much thinking about all
the other DGs etc

Ya so Fricsays DG is actually really good… I think I need this… and
maybe even fricsay’s Zauberflöte… although the „lus-tig“ in vogelfänger
and also when he gets loud before that for a sec or sth etc already
turned me off…

about tue Mozart opera recordings is the motherfucking truth

Papageno is - and it’s quite evident in the Vogelfänger aria - that it
is too forced… it doesn’t work this way… and ya while I think his DG is
alright, he is nothing against Ghiaurov… and I will reconsider Siepi -
although he’s nothing against Ghiaurov either I believe…

Let me reevaluate Siepi vs DFD as the Don — likely Siepi is way better…
I’m not so much a fan of the vibrato DFD has in ah taci… and I don’t

The only role I like DFD in is Almaviva in Fricsays recording…

Fricsays recording is really good — in some ways I like his style,
because it’s a bit of a more dark Papageno maybe…

Guess I still need Fricsays DG… I mean it’s cool — it’s just a more

as well - in deciding which the best are, there are no real rules to
follow…

So I don’t think i need Fricsays DG — women are problematic… which again
makes me reconsider his figaro, but the women here are actuall quite
good - I like seefried here as Susanna, as opposed to her Zerlina

— it seems as she has trouble reaching the high notes…

Compare this to Freni or Güden…

They are not strained… they don’t need to „shout“

Also, after having listened to Hüschs Papageno again — I think I prefer
DFD — Hüsch is not good…

I guess I’m also keeping Östmans Mozart opera recordings… they are
beautifully sung, beautifully recorded, sometimes probably a bit too
fast, but I have reservations about all the recordings… except maybe for
Klemperer’s DG…

Sure they could also have more texture (Östmans recordings) — but they
are quite fine, and probably the best out of the hip/hybrid-approach… I
should probably recheck Gardiners Zauberflöte… his nozze and DG and cosi
are out of question because of gilfry (and possibly other reasons as
well)

So for nozze it’s Suitner and Östman it seems — I can’t get over Solti‘s
awful accompaniment (also I feel Ramsey just isn’t a good figaro - I
feel similarly about Siepi) and I’m not a big fan of Böhm’s
accompaniment in his late nozze as well (besides not being too sure
about Prey as Figaro and janowitz as the countess)

Haitinks glyndebourne nozze sucks — accompaniment and singers, I don’t
lie Fleming… and others it seems…

don’t like the papageno — and his accompaniment is also not good…

— he’s def one of my favorites alongside Berry and Hagegard

Papageno in 3, only like him in one..

The problem really is phrasing, like… fucking hell, concentrate on the
singing — I mean the singer AND the orchestra… it’s like they don’t
really work together here as much as in other recordings besides the
phrasing being awful…

Listen to Berry in ein Mädchen oder Weibchen with Klemperer — how
beautiful he and the orchestra are tuned together, and all these little
nuances…

Okay I don’t need Fischers Zauberflöte nor any of levines — although I
will have to look into his 2017 met production…

don't really hold up against the competition, while interestingly
Gardiner's Idomeneo does - probably because it hasn't been recorded as
often and if not treated justly until more recently ---- I should
probably revisit Pritchard's, but afair there were problems with the
singing and also accompaniment... Gardiner also has more texture than
Östman generally...

quite good

last fav composers update, I wanted to redeem myself with a new update -
I probably also shouldn’t have mentioned either Debussy nor Ravel there…

Actually the acting and production is nice… let me think about this some
more — I mean Gunn is funny no doubt… and the acting works I guess… some
things though didn’t sit right with me I think…

I like Gunn but I think it just doesn’t work because of levines
accompaniment… let me think about this later or tomorrow — and I’m also
not much of a fan of the voices of the 3 kids

I might actually keep Ivan Fischers Zauberflöte especially for the
Papageno and Papagena… but hmmm… naa… queen sucks, one or two or three
of the ladies suck, pamina sucks… but then there are other nice moments
hmmm…

I mean I think the staging, but much more so the acting in Levines Met
Magic flute is just too much for me to bear — too over the top… it
doesn’t work… I don’t need it… caricature

Klemperers and Bergmans still the best…

Okay fuck DFD - his Papageno just sucks (but it’s still probably better
than most/many), it’s a caricature, too forced; his DG sucks as well…
