IMO Rachmaninov’s Masterpiece. Until now the premiere recording, released in 1965 with Evgeni Sveshnikov has never been bettered. Now a new recording has equaled it, and far surpassed it in sound engineering. It is conducted by Jermihov. Reference Recordings has issued it in some super-mastered version at a high price, but it is available in a regular version.

The same forces are on Reference Recordings doing the Divine Liturgy St Chrysostom, in what seems to be a more recent recording. Have you heard this? The beauty of this music is definitely enhanced by the acoustics used.
