Discussion:
"There used to be a time when I would put blind trust in the reviewers of The Gramophone, but nowadays their judgment (or their hearing?) appears to be increasingly impaired."

In response to that 2010 Amazon customer review:

- I too sense that the Gramophone reviews of late have been seriously wide of the mark! (2013)

I learned very early the true value of Gramophone reviews!

Sometime during the 1960s I read a review of some Richter
recordings in which Abram Chasins called him a "miniaturist".
Some miniaturist!

It' all about perspective dk. Chasins was clearly in to Sorabji's organ symphonies at the time.

Chasins argued that Richter's Rachmaninov readings were
wrong headed and those of miniaturist, while the true
epic of Rachmaninov's piano music materialized only
Constance Keene's recordings -- his wife!

Some perspective!

I was told by someone who knew a critic on the now-defunct 'Classical Recordings Quarterly' that the critic in question told him that "all criticism is pure ego-trippery - we just love to see our opinions in print." He also added that being a music critic "is a very good way to build up your record collection with lots of lovely free promo copies." So now we know!
